THAME RELIEF FUND
On August 16, 2024, a catastrophic glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) struck my hometown of Thame, causing widespread devastation. The powerful flood destroyed homes, infrastructure, and essential community facilities, leaving more than 30 families displaced. The local school and health clinic were completely washed away, while critical trails and bridges were destroyed, cutting off access to and from the village. The disaster left residents without shelter, medical care, or a means of rebuilding their lives on their own.
In response to this urgent crisis, we took immediate action by launching a GoFundMe campaign to raise emergency relief funds. Thanks to the generosity and support of donors from around the world, we successfully raised $109,435.00 to aid the affected families. On October 30, 2024, we directly distributed these funds to 53 families who had suffered significant losses, ensuring they received immediate financial assistance to meet their most urgent needs.
While this initial relief effort provided critical support in the aftermath of the disaster, the road to recovery remains long. Rebuilding homes, restoring infrastructure, and reconstructing vital facilities such as the school and clinic will require sustained effort and ongoing support. Our mission is to ensure that Thame not only recovers but emerges stronger and more resilient for future generations.
